Film and TV production comprehensively covers all aspects of the practical and theoretical aspects of filmmaking, including, Directing, Camera work and Lighting, Producing, Editing, Scriptwriting, Film Analysis and Visual Literacy.
PURPOSE AND RATIONALE OF THE QUALIFICATION
Purpose:
The purpose of the qualification is to supply the Film and Television Industry with disciplined, fully skilled and qualified filmmakers embodying principals such as excellence, dedication, passion and a professional work ethic. This qualification is intended for scriptwriters, producers, directors, cinematographers, sound engineers and editors in the field of film and television production.
Competent learners will be able to evaluate and/or develop viable ideas, concepts and proposals to be reproduced into creative audio visual formats, as well as to manage and co-ordinate the different phases of motion picture production. In addition, successful learners will have the competent skills, knowledge and attitudes to perform various specialized functions associated with the creation of motion pictures such as scriptwriting, producing, directing, and cinematography, sound and editing.
Learners will further have knowledge of marketing, distributing and exhibiting motion pictures and related materials. Ultimately, qualified learners will play an important role in contributing towards the development and establishment of a sustainable African motion picture industry.
Rationale:
This revised National Certificate Film & Television Production, in line with DIGMAC mission and institutional plan aims at providing a platform for the creation, application and construction of knowledge, technology and skills of an international standard through cooperative professional training, which is guided by the South African Film and Television Industry. In this programme the emphasis is on career oriented training where the student has to, after summative assessment prove artistic, technological and industrial competence.
